District 204 came together for an evening of music at the 2019 Solo & Ensemble Honors Recital at Waubonsie Valley High School. The honors recital wraps up the district Solo & Ensemble festival by showcasing outstanding students from all three high schools.
Solo & Ensemble is a non-competitive event in which students are able to perform a solo or ensemble. The festival is a co-curricular activity and requires after school rehearsal times. Students spend months preparing and perfecting literature, working one on one with a director and accompanist. On February 23, students perform in front of a qualified clinician. The clinician then provides ideas for growth in a master-class setting. This provides an opportunity for students to grow as musicians and advance their individual musicianship skills.
The day concludes with clinicians making their recommendations for outstanding performances to be featured in the honors recital. This year’s event includes vocalists, pianists and a percussion ensemble.
