Southwest Community Park Name
At its latest meeting, the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners voted to open a 60-day consideration period to rename the future Southwest Community Park “Wolf’s Crossing Community Park.” The name came as a suggestion from Ginny Wolf Chivas, a descendant of the Wolf family that settled the area. Any Naperville resident can attend a park board meeting within the next 60 days to suggest a different name for the park. The board will vote at the end of the consideration period.
Kayak Rentals
The Forest Preserve District of Will County is opening up Whalon Lake to kayak rentals. In partnership with Naperville Kayak, the vessels will be available starting in May and sailing through October. The forest preserve offers kayak rentals at other locations throughout Will County, but hasn’t had the resources to offer the service at Whalon Lake, until this year.
Concerts in Your Park Results
Results are in from the “Concerts in Your Park” online vote. More than 700 Naperville residents weighed in on what parks will host a concert this summer, and what genre of music will be heard. The winning parks are Century Farms Park and Queensbury Greens, Gartner Park and Walnut Ridge, and A. George Pradel Park and White Eagle Park. Performers and dates will be announced in the spring.
Feed the Need
Feed the Need is back at North Central College. The two-day event starts tomorrow at noon and will see thousands of volunteers packaging meals in partnership with Feed My Starving Children. Organizers have set a goal to pack 1.3 million meals of dried vegetables, rice, vitamins, and soy, which will be shipped to impoverished communities around the world. Shifts are still available and you can register online at northcentralcollege.edu.
