State of the City Panel
The League of Women Voters Naperville hosted a panel last night to answer questions about municipal organizations. Marcie Schatz from the City of Naperville, Police Chief Robert Marshall, Fire Chief Mark Puknaitis, District 203 Board Vice President Donna Wandke, District 204 Board President Mike Raczak, and Park District Director of Recreation Brad Wilson spoke to the assembled crowd about different issues in their respective organizations. The idea was to give voters perspective on the state of the city from public officials who aren’t running for office. They answered questions from the audience about legalized marijuana, TIF districts, and many other topics.
Naperville Man Pleads Not Guilty
A Naperville man who was shot by Naperville police on January 23 has pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault to a police officer. Police responded to an incident around 10:30 p.m. that night after receiving a 911 call to the 1200 block of W. Ogden Avenue. They found the 27-year-old Zachary Kelley outside a strip mall, holding what appeared to be a gun to his head. After police tried to convince Kelley to drop the gun, he eventually pointed the weapon at an officer, causing police to shoot him in the leg. It was then discovered that Kelley’s weapon was a pellet gun. Kelley will next appear in court on April 1.
Benet Girls Back to State
Benet Academy Girls Basketball is heading back to state. Last night the Redwings dominated the Oswego Panthers in the Lewis University Supersectional by a score of 55-22. Benet will move on to face Mother McAuley on Friday night in the state semi finals at Illinois State University. The Redwings look to bring home their third state championship after winning the 4A title in 2015 and 2016.
