Park District Parks

Nine Naperville Park District parks are getting a new look, but not in the way you may be thinking. Turf grass will be replaced with a meadow of native wildflowers and low prairie grasses, in an effort to improve the habitat, better filter storm water, and in the long term – reduce park district costs. The native grasses will reduce the need for mowing, watering, and fertilizing. Three parks each in the north, south and central parts of town were selected for the project, and work will begin on them this month. For the full list of the parks check out the park district website.

Mindfulness Matters

KidsMatter and Collaborative Youth Team are helping teach teens ways to de-stress. The Mindfulness Matters campaign will send weekly messages on social media that emphasize a different stress-relieving strategy. The campaign began March 4 to help give tips on tranquility to teens, specifically during the season of standardized testing. They’ll also host “Stress Less for the Test” events this week to help students learn how to unwind their mind before taking tests. More information can be found on the KidsMatter Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages.

NCC Track & Field

After finishing as the runners up in the indoor and outdoor national meets last year, North Central College men’s track and field ran away from the competition at the 2019 National Meet in Boston this weekend. The Cardinals secured 55 team points to win their sixth indoor track national championship and 38th overall. NCC also had individual national championships from seniors Dhruvil Patel and Luke Winder. Patel won the 5K for a second consecutive season and Winder set NCAA records by winning his fourth indoor pole vault championship and seventh pole vault championship overall. He’s the first seven-time pole vault champion in NCAA history.
