Anna Quindlen Discusses Her Latest Book With Anderson’s

Mother’s Day is a special occasion for moms all across America. But being a grandmother is a completely different challenge.

Anderson’s Bookshop recently invited columnist and author Anna Quindlen for a book talk on her latest release “Nanaville: Adventures in Grandparenting.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist spoke at North Central College on the challenges and joys of becoming a grandmother.

“I never thought about being a grandmother. It just seemed too many stages removed from my everyday life. Even from my everyday life as a mother,” Quindlen said.

Quindlen’s Stories of Self-Reflection

She told stories from the book and also discussed how being a grandmother has made her reevaluate her own life.

“I describe in the book the day that we were walking down the driveway and [my grandson] discovered his shadow,” Quindlen told the audience. “We spent a long afternoon – he moved, the shadow moved, he raised his arm… and I thought to myself, I have not really looked at a shadow in 25 years, since [my daughter] was a little girl.”

The Perfect Gift

Those who attended the event also got a free, signed copy of Nanaville, just in time for Mother’s Day.
