From the Naperville Park District, YMCA, and Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, there’s a wide variety of programs out there this winter break to keep everyone busy on their days off.
If it’s nature-based fun that you love then the forest preserve should be your first stop.
“So we really have all kinds of programs, they really range from one hour long programs to all day programs. We have ranger adventure days, we have some different snowshoe hikes – obviously we need some snow so we’re kind of waiting for winter to cooperate with us a little bit, but once we have snow and ice we’re going to have all kinds of family-friendly programs for us this winter,” explained Manger of Site Operations with the Forest Preserve, Justin Frederick.
Some programs like archery or sleigh rides are available even without snow.
But if you’re looking for something a bit sportier or to stay indoors, then the park district may have the camp for you.
“We have opportunities for ages 3-17. We have everything from arts, we have drawing camps, we have culinary, sports camps like bowling, basketball, gymnastics, all kinds of fun things. And they’re spread out across the community,” said Sameera Luthman, the director of marketing and communications for the park district.
And at Kroehler and Fry YMCA in town, kids can join Safe N’ Sound, an all day camp to play games, build skills, and even go on some field trips.
“We will be doing field trips like to Main Event, we’re going to Naperville Yard, we’re going to have a selfie party, we have a day of bowling. So just different activities that kids would really enjoy,” said Erika Wood, the executive director of Safe N’ Sound.
Endless options for beating bored this winter break.
Openings are still available for these camps. Check with each agency for more information.
