At their latest meeting, the District 203 Board of Education approved a ten-cent increase in lunch prices for all grade levels, bringing the district into compliance with federal guidelines for the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.

Beginning in the fall, elementary lunches will be $2.70, junior high will be $2.75 and high school will be $2.80. Cartons of milk will remain the same price at 45 cents.

Also at the meeting, long-time board member Mike Jaensch announced his intent to resign following the board’s next meeting on June 5. Jaensch, who was first elected in 2007, will be relocating to Texas for work – leaving a vacancy the board will then need to fill.

“The board will invite applications, then they will hold interviews, and then depending on how many applications there are there may be one, two, who knows how many rounds, that’ll be up to the new, smaller board at that time,” said Jaensch, explaining how they will fill his position.

Whoever is chosen to fill his position will serve on the board until Jaensch’s term expires in 2019.
