District 203 Taxes May Increase

The District 203 Board of Education recently discussed a proposed tax levy that could increase homeowner tax rates.

Chief Financial Officer Marcy Boyan estimated property tax rates would increase by 2.1 percent. For the average homeowner with a $410,000 home, that means paying about $230 more in property taxes.

But some good news- if the debt service levy continued to be reduced as it was last year, then those taxes would be brought to under $200, saving the homeowner $88.

“But I understand that we’re trying to balance two things – the state uncertainty and being very financially responsible to our taxpayers. So the fact that we can take a full levy and abate some of it without losing some of it is very exciting concept to me,” said Vice President of the board, Donna Wandke.

The board will need to adopt a tax levy at their December 18 meeting.
