Back to school can be a busy time for teachers who are looking for ideas to make learning more fun.
“We really wanted an event to kick off and get excited about some of those new programs and the ball kept rolling and we said lets make it a larger party and a big kickoff for the school year for teachers,” said Thomas Sullivan, the DuPage Children’s Museum’s director of education and programs.
Thirty-nine different exhibitors attended the DuPage Children’s Museum’s Teacher Expo to show off different programs and ideas. There were tarantulas, musical booths, and some more hands-on activities.
More than 400 educators showed up for the free event, looking for ideas to incorporate in their classrooms.
“Our curriculum is emerging, it happens at the time, we don’t have anything set so it’s nice to know we have all these resources in our back pockets that we can reach out to different organizations to help support what we’re doing in the classroom,” said Georgina Jackson, a Naperville resident and teacher at St. Mark’s Preschool in Glen Ellyn.
The Teacher Expo was open to teachers, scout leaders, childcare providers and anyone involved with children Pre-K to middle school.
And though this was just the first year of the Teacher Expo, they’re already thinking about the next one.
“This was our first year, but based tonight’s success, we will absolutely continue next year,” said Sullivan.
