DuPagePads recently held their 2nd Annual Career Fair at the College of DuPage.
35 employers from DuPage County were on hand to chat with potential hires, at an event that speaks to what DuPagePads is all about.
“Our career fair just speaks to one of the solutions that we have to ending homelessness here in DuPage County,” said President and CEO of DuPagePads, Carol Simler. “Our solution is housing coupled with support services and employment, and careers is how we want people to think, long-term, not just a job but a career where they can be successful.”
The event featured group workshops focused on interviewing skills and resume tips, along with advice from the companies of interest.
“So I think it’s also important for folks to know who are coming out to career fairs to get excited. Do the research of the companies you want to work for because they’re all looking for talent and it’s a good way to make a first impression to an employer that you can potentially be working for,” said Betty Hong, a human resource manager at Georgia-Pacific.
Those looking for part time or full time positions met with employers from manufacturing and banking to customer service and health care.
“I just came out because I’m looking to expand and get a second job and I just like that there’s a lot of different opportunities here. I like that everyone is all in one area,” said attendee Lauren Richards.
“I don’t want to do just the regular thing and I saw there’s a lot of variety here as far as a career path. So I’ll see what people are looking for because I know it’s a changing job-scape out there,” said Rohan Patel, another attendee.
