DuPagePads is waking up the spirit of many in our county by helping fight homelessness.

The nonprofit’s 15th annual Wake Up Your Spirit Breakfast was recently held at Benedictine University, to recognize what they’ve done to help end homelessness in DuPage County over the past year.

Of note were Pads’ 12 new apartments provided to chronically homeless individuals and their work in getting all chronically homeless veterans in DuPage County off the streets and into a home.

“Because homeless has a solution- it’s DuPagePads,” said President and CEO of DuPagePads Carol Simler. “It’s you and it’s me and it’s housing coupled with support and employment, and I’m going to ask you to come and join us today. Be part of the solution, because when someone believes in you, everything can change.”

This year’s keynote speaker was Eric Soderholm, a former Chicago White Sox third baseman.

And a former DuPagePads client spoke as well, telling her story of coming out of homelessness with the help of the not-for-profit.

DuPagePads received a private planning grant of $50,000 that will help them better address the health and dental needs of their homeless clients.
