“Making Memories” – it’s the theme for this year’s DuPage County Fair and the hope for all visitors who walk the 55-acre fairgrounds.
“We celebrate the individuals and the people of DuPage County. We have a lot of contests here, competition is what a fair is all about, we have a lot of opportunities for people to showcase their talent and challenge people to do better,” said Jim McGuire, Manager of the DuPage County Fair Association.
Whether that’s done through the livestock arena, cook-offs or art competitions, competitors have the chance to win $50,000 worth of prizes, while visitors have the chance to experience the traditions of DuPage County.
“It’s just a fun family get together for us and for my kids to see my aunt, and we have good memories of coming to the fair as children and I wanted to share that with my kids,” said Julie Kauffman, a visitor to the fair.
Classic attractions like petting zoos and the carnival rides keep the youngest of fairgoers riding smooth throughout the day.
“We played a lot of games, won a lot of prizes and we’re about to go see the animals,” said Tess Jones, another visitor to the fair.
And new additions like a classic car-show and a new music venue will put a fresh spin on the five-day festival.
“We got Rachel Platten coming in Friday night, a lot of people excited about that, so it should be a wonderful concert, and then Saturday night we’re bringing in David Nail, so we believe we’ve created a beautiful venue for everyone to enjoy,” added McGuire.
The DuPage County Fair runs through Sunday, July 30 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
