The Forest Preserve Districts of DuPage County and Will County are combining forces to connect a regional trail system.
The two districts, along with the Elmhurst-Chicago Stone Company, will work together to connect the Greene Valley Forest Preserve in DuPage to Whalon Lake in Will County through a 1.25-mile trail link.
The bi-county trail system will extend along Royce and Greene Roads – providing an opportunity to not only connect trails, but communities as well.
“We’ll be able to bring folks from Naperville through the south side of Naperville, through the DuPage River rail system. We’ll connect Greene Valley to Whalon Lake, Knoch Knolls Nature Center, the Riverwalk, west branch of the river and all the way to the south or east side of the river to a site that we have called the Vermont Cemetery,” explained Ralph Schultz, Chief Operating Officer of the Forest Preserve District of Will County.
Construction will begin in mid-August and should be complete by the end of October.
Once completed, the trail will be a part of the 40-mile DuPage River Regional Trail system.
