The League of Women Voters of Naperville held a political discussion. Titled “Illinois Budget or Band-Aid?” the talk focused on the effects of Illinois’ long budget impasse and the status of Illinois’ finances going forward.
“This budget’s a Band-Aid,” said Republican State Representative Grant Wherli. “I look forward to this conversation tonight, there are pluses that came out of passing this budget. Long term in my opinion it didn’t solve much of anything.”
“I think it’s both, a budget and a band-aid,” said Democratic State Representative Stephanie Kifowit. “I think we do need to come back in the future to make sure that we correct some of the things that are going on, but at least it’s a start and a start in the right direction.”
State Representatives Grant Wehrli and Stephanie Kifowit were joined on the panel by District 204 board member Susan Taylor-Demming and K. Sujata, the president and CEO of the Chicago Foundation for Women.
After their opening remarks the panelists answered questions from the moderator and from the audience.
The league is making birthday boxes to send to new 18 year olds, encouraging them to get registered to vote and get active in politics.
