On October 23, Mesón Sabika donated 100 percent of its sales to the Red Cross to aid relief efforts for disasters like hurricanes Florence and Michael, and the earthquakes and tsunami in Indonesia.

Hossein Jamali, owner of the tapas restaurant, says he holds events like these out of a sense of empathy for those affected.

“I put myself or my family in their shoes and picture, what if it was us, what if this was Naperville?” he explained.

The Rotary Club of Naperville agreed to match the first $10,000 raised by Mesón Sabika, making for a total donation of $26,430.

“Others do understand the pain of those affected as well, and that’s why they come in to support,” said Jamali.

Mesón Sabika will be giving back again come Thanksgiving with its annual complimentary holiday dinner for those in need.
