District 203 is looking to clear the way for improvements to Naperville Central’s softball field.
The 203 school board discussed an intergovernmental agreement with the Naperville Park District regarding Knoch Park.
The agreement will allow the district to make improvements to the softball field, bringing it up to par with the baseball field.
“Our proposed agreement will allow a field to be built to the same standard as the baseball field we use at Knoch as well as the softball and baseball fields at Naperville North,” said Bob Ross, chief operating officer of District 203.
This comes after a father of a former Naperville Central softball player brought the inequality to the board’s attention in June.
While the Naperville Park District has already approved the new agreement, the 203 school board will vote on it at an upcoming meeting.
Also at the meeting, the board discussed policy changes that would restrict how teachers and students are allowed to contact each other.
The revision would only allow staff to communicate with students using district-approved technologies and services, like the district’s official email, or an approved texting service.
It would prevent, for example, a student and staff member from texting each other from one personal device to another.
The policy would provide additional protection to adults and kids.
“There’s always room for misinterpretation. I’m thinking from the boy scout perspective. Like, for example a boy scout leader must copy another adult on any email to a student, it’s just an additional protection in place,” said Kristine Gericke, a District 203 board member.
The policy is not yet final, and will be refined and voted on at an upcoming meeting.
