Origami in the Garden is now open at the Morton Arboretum. These larger-than-life metal sculptures can be seen throughout the grounds, and are included with general admission.
“There’s 25 displays in total, there’s about 40 individual sculpture pieces, and they’re all within walking distance of our Visitor Center, along paved walkways or wood chipped trails, so we try to make the exhibition as accessible as we can,” said Public Relations Specialist with the Morton Arboretum, Patti MacMillian.
Depicting animals, objects and many paper cranes, the sculptures all began as a small, folded piece of paper before being crafted into these large-scale designs.
“We host exhibitions most summers and we really liked origami because there’s a lot of elements of nature represented in these different pieces,” said Macmillian. “Also the delicate folds and clean lines against the sort of wild, organic shapes of nature is a really interesting contrast.”
These pieces will be at the Arboretum through October 22.
Origami in the Garden is a traveling exhibit created by Santa Fe based artists Kevin and Jennifer Box.
