Overnight parking may be coming to some streets in Naperville.
This comes after the city completed two pilot programs, most recently in The Enclave at Country Lakes Neighborhood.
Current municipal code forbids parking on city streets between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. each day. However, in this pilot program, residents of the selected neighborhoods were able to park on the street overnight if they had the proper hangtag.
“Really what we’ve been focusing on are neighborhoods where we’ve noted that there are challenges, primarily where we’re seeing issues with compliance in some townhome neighborhoods where people may have only single car garages or shorter driveways, and so if they have multiple vehicles it is harder to comply with the ordinance overnight,” said Jennifer Louden, the Deputy Director of Transportation, Engineering and Development with the City of Naperville.
City staff evaluated the pilot and deemed that parking on one side of the street in an organized manner did not impact city operations.
Officials are now recommending expansion of the pilot program to include more neighborhoods in town.
Staff is hoping to make an official recommendation to the City Council by the fall.
