A proposed ice arena and event center for Naperville has moved one step closer to full approval.

The Planning and Zoning Commission recently approved rezoning of land on corporate lane near Monarch Landing for the construction of CityGate Centre North.

The nearly 210,000-square-foot venue will feature two NHL-sized ice rinks, one of which will have arena seating for over 4,000 people.

Developers say the arena will host a USHL hockey team, and could be covered in a hard floor for other events, like concerts, with seating for up to 6,000.

The commission also granted variances for the addition of a restaurant on site and reduced required parking.
