This November, DuPage County voters will get the chance to weigh in on three tax-related referendum questions.
The first question asks if DuPage County should oppose a property tax hike equivalent to one percent of your home’s value.
Economists from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago propose imposing the tax on every homeowner in the state for the next 30 years in order to reduce state debt.
The second asks if DuPage County should oppose the creation of a statewide vehicle mileage tax, or VMT, which would tax citizens based on miles driven. Currently Oregon is the only state with an established VMT program.
And the third referendum asks whether the county should continue to consolidate departments within local government to streamline services and cut costs.
The DuPage County Board approved all three of the referenda for inclusion on the November 6 ballot.
