The Special Events and Cultural Amenities Commission had their last workshop to make their final decisions on funding recommendations.
Applicants once again had the opportunity to address the commissioners. Some used it to answer questions, others used it to request more funding than they were recommended.
Ultimately, the commission decided to reduce Christkindlmarket’s funding to $45,841 – enough to cover city service costs for the event.
The new recommendations include fully funding the India Day Parade and two art fairs: one by the Naperville Art League, and one by the Naperville Women’s Club.
The remaining $1,100 was directed to a new event, the hollow bahu dance series.
“It also has a question and answer session, it involves the audience more than a theater production because you have a chance to reflect on it,” said student commissioner Satvika Veeravalli. “I feel like they would be achieving their purpose a little more effectively.”
The commission’s recommendations will now be passed on to City Council for review at a public workshop on March 13.
