Illinois State Senator Michael Connelly and DuPage County Board President Dan Cronin hosted more than 70 booths providing information on different services available to seniors in the community.
“It’s our seventh year doing this and like I said, it’s been growing in popularity,” said Connelly. “People walk out of here with a bag full of goodies and brochures and business cards for entities that provide services for seniors.”
“So there’s a lot of issues and needs and concerns – whether it’s home health care, whether it’s Alzheimer’s, whether it’s your property taxes or how to appeal certain issues that could occur in your neighborhood,” said Cronin. “So we gathered all these different service providers who have expertise in serving seniors.”
Seniors also were able to speak with healthcare workers like chiropractors and dental professionals about how to take care of their bodies as they age.
“One of the booths that I stopped at that I really, really appreciated was the dental one. I learned a lot about toothbrushes,” said Wheaton resident Gloria Fortman.
Connelly and Cronin stuck around to chat with fair-goers, but Connelly also mentioned a different reason for perusing the booths.
“Well first of all, I’m not a spring chicken anymore so one of these days soon I’ll be looking for these services,” joked Connelly. “But it also allows me to have a better understanding of what is offered in the private sector to our seniors.”
Seniors also had access to a variety of free health screenings like blood pressure checks and balance evaluations.
