The next generation of scientists and engineers gathered at Fermilab for the annual Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Career Expo.
High school students from as far away as Milwaukee came looking to learn about careers in the fields that interest them.
“I think it’s really cool that you can see the different careers that everyone does and where they started out in college and where they are now,” said high school student Sydney Calcagno. “It’s really neat.”
In addition to five separate panel discussions, students were able to speak one-on-one with professionals working in STEM-related careers.
With attention-grabbing demonstrations like flaming rocks and robotic measuring arms, the companies there were working hard to engage the students.
“We’re really happy that Fermilab can open its doors to have businesses, research centers, and professional associations from all over Chicago to share their areas of STEM,” said Susan Dahl, the education program leader at Fermilab. “And there’s so many emerging careers coming out. We want kids to know about those.”
All these growing minds need is a stem.
