With construction on the Water Street District completed, hundreds gathered to celebrate the achievement in a ceremony at the new Foyo Plaza and Imburgia Fountain, dedicated to investors who helped make the project a reality.
“I never in my wildest imagination did I think it would turn out as good as it did. It is just fabulous beyond my best hopes,” said Mayor Steve Chirico.
Water Street features new restaurants, new retail spaces, and the 158-room Hotel iIdigo.
Another project dedicated at the event was “Streaming History”, a mural series commissioned by the Naperville Century Walk.
Streaming History features five five-by-nine foot murals by Debora Duran-Geiger, each detailing an aspect of Naperville’s history. The murals are on display along the Water Street section of the Riverwalk.
Construction on Water Street started in 2015, though planning for the project began while Mayor Emeritus A. George Pradel was still in office.
“I’m proud of Naperville,” exclaimed Mayor Emeritus Pradel, addressing the crowd. “Thanks for being here to witness a new transformation in Naperville.”
