Benet Academy against Metea valley kicks off the girls soccer season. We begin with Nikki Coryell and the mustangs hosting Benet Academy. The Redwings come off a 20-4-1 2018 campaign after losing in the Super Sectionals in Class 2A but they have 8 of their 9 top scorers returning this year. The mustangs start their hunt for their 6th consecutive regional title.
Action starts quick, second minute in, Metea’s Kiley McKee from way outside, sends a shot to the goal but Benet’s Evangeline Frantzen scoops it up to keep the board empty.
Just a minute later, Benet’s Abby Casmere steals the ball from Benet and centers it to newcomer Jamiee Cibulka who moves through traffic and then finds the back of the net. 1-0 Benet.
First half is action packed as Metea still trying to get on the board, Nicole Dawson with the free kick that connects with Paige Burnosky’s head but it’s just a little too wide. 1-0 Benet at the break.
53rd minute, and more from sophomore Jaimee Cibulka… her fancy footwork gets her free to pass to Mia Tommasone but Coryell punches it away from the net.
After Benet’s Sarah Bozych gets fouled in the box.. Mia Ullmer gets the penalty kick. She shoots left and finds twine. Redwings up 2-0 now.
Benet puts the game away in the 70th minute, Casmere moves around the defense and slides in Benet’s third goal to open up their season with a 3-0 victory.
