The Naper Valley Warriors head to All Seasons in the Scholastic Cup against Loyola Academy. Due to injury and the absence of Lyndie Lobdell they are rolling with 8 players. Even their 2nd goalie, Sam Steciak is dressing as a skater. This could lead to a very busy night in net for Ashley Ommen, who just arrived from a game in Michigan with her club team.
The Ramblers come out of the gates on fire. Ellie Joubert flies along the far board and fires a shot that is saved by Ashley Ommen. Just the start of a monster night in net for number 31.
A minute later Loyola kicks the puck out and Avery Miller shoots one from the point, but Ommen is there for the save.
The Ramblers win a board battle for the puck and Ellie Joubert lets one go from the circle, but Ommen fights it off.
5 minutes to play in the 1st and the Ramblers continue the onslaught of shots. Kolssack gets a good look, but it’s saved by Ommen. She stops 20 shots in the 1st period.
The Ramblers get a golden opportunity towards the end of the 1st. Caroline Smith centers to Bryn Jones, but Ashley Ommen kicks it aside. She makes an absurd 55 saves in this game.
1 minute remaining in the 1st. Kolssak carries the puck over the blue line and wrists a shot that is soaked up by Ommen. Scoreless heading to the 2nd.
5 minutes into the 2nd the Ramblers finally breakthrough against Ommen. Deanna Buenzow gets the puck on net and Bryn Jones scores the opening goal. Loyola leads 1-0.
After being held without a shot in the 1st period, the Warriors get the offense moving in the 2nd. Sophia McBane dances around a defender and fires a shot, but Kayla Johnson is there to make her 1st save in the game. 1-0 Ramblers heading to the 3rd.
2-0 Ramblers early in the 3rd period and they continue their attack, but Ashley Ommen’s spectacular night continues. The puck gets centered for Karly Kolssak, but Ommen uses her mask to make the stop.
Desperation time for Naper Valley as they are still down by 2 with time dwindling. Elisabeth Schroeder has a shot saved by Johnson and then the Rambler defense clears the puck and they hold on to beat the Warriors 2-0. Naper Valley suffers their 1st loss in the Scholastic Cup playoffs. Despite the loss, Ashley Ommen puts up a very memorable performance.
