Regional quarterfinal action as 14th seeded Metea Valley takes on 19th seeded Montini at Waubonsie Valley. Winner advances to the regional semis.
First Set
Montini leading early in the first set but Metea looking to change that. Daniel Coates’ kill attempt is blocked at the net by Bronco Michael Gergan for the Mintini point, up by 5.
Montini leading by 7 later in the set, Mustang TJ Steffgen can’t get the kill to fall that fives Montini an opportunity. KP Caarol sets up Daniel Cyza for the kill, 18-10 Broncos.
Montini cleaned up pretty quick in the first set. KP Daarol sets up Michael Gergan but it’s blocked. The broncos get it back for Bobby Meifert to get the kill. Montini takes the first set 25-19.
Second Set
Metea knows it’s win or go home and in the second set they show more fire. Montini tries to get the floater but the mustangs set back up and Brandon Long assists Ryan Owens on the kill. Mustangs lead 13-6.
Metea wants to push this game to a third set, leading by 10, Long sets up Alec Gaertner for the quick kill. Mustangs win the 2nd set in dominating fashion 25-10.
Third Set
Now to the third and final set. Metea leading by just one… well make that two after Long sets up Connor Murphy for the kill that pains the back court. 10-8 mustangs.
Metea leading by two a few points later and Brandon Long picks up another of his 24 assists on this set that leads to a kill by TJ Steffgan. Steffgan with 8 kills in the game.
We jump in mid rally with some nice saves. Ryan Owens has his kill attempt dug out by montini but they do a great job of keeping the play alive. Brandon Long gets denied on the sneak attack so he goes to Owens to get the job down. Metea leads 19-14.
And the mustangs complete the come back. It would be a quick final point as Long sets up Steffgan for the game winning kill. The mustangs advance to the Regional Semifinals against numer 3 seed West Aurora.
