Naperville Central fighting an uphill battle, with the 19th seed, in the Regional quarter finals facing off against the 15 seed Batavia Boys Basketball team at Downers Grove South.
Batavia starting the game like their shorts are on fire… Zach Weber drilling the mid range jumper, Bulldogs lead 11-0 in the first quarter.
Moving on to the second with Central still looking to score their first basket. Cam Dougherty wrangles a pass and hits the three to put the Redhawks on the board, 21-3.
Redhawks climbing their way back, Daugherty hits another big 3 in the second quarter, still trailing by 16.
Switching sides, third quarter now, Dougherty on the move finds Sophomore Sam Jackson for the triple in the corner. Redhawks still down 15.
Final stanza and Batavia’s Jayden Johnson looking for the ball underneath, he gets it and the lay up. Bulldogs lead 46-32.
Redhawks won’t quit though. Senior Payton Thorne driving hard to the basket. Gets the hoop and the harm, Redhawks just trailing by 10.
Thorne shows he can hit from outside the arc as well, draining the deep three, cutting the bulldogs lead to just 6!
After a Cam Dougherty three and a Batavia turnover, the Redhawks have a chance to tie the game with one second left but Dougherty’s shot is offline and Central’s season comes to a close in dramatic fashion. The Batavia Boys Basketball team moves on to play Downers Grove South.
