It’s cold. It’s windy. That can only mean one thing. It’s time for regional action on the pitch. Naperville North, the three time defending state champions, open up their post season facing off against Plainfield East.
First Half
8th minute and Plainfield East looking for the edge. Off the corner kick the Huskie defense knocks the ball away but off another shot, Jason Barba jumps up to grab the ball and keep the board empty.
14th minute now, and North looks to make a move off a boot down field. Ty Konrad, wrangling the loose ball in front of the net knocks it in to get the huskies on the board, leading 1-0.
Still in the first half, 7 minutes left until the break, North moving the ball downfield, the huskies looking for a little give and go action but Pedro Lopez slides in to stop the shot, keeping the bengals in the game.
North just controlling the ball in the first half. Zach Smith racing down field, looking for the feed and he gets it on the break away, the ball finds twine and the huskies find themselves doubling the lead, 2-0.
Second Half
In to the second half and Plainfield East looking to get on the board. Joseph Duarte gets fancy with his footwork and then sends one to the net but again, Barba is there to fall on the ball.
The huskies looking to extend their lead with 10 and a half minutes to play. Zach Smith gets through some defenders and sends the shot but again, Lopez in for the save.
Time ticking down in the game and East getting desperate. The ball is headed for a perfect chance to score from Alejandro Barriga but again, Barba is there for the stop.
Two minutes left in the game and Alenjandro Barrigan breaks ahead of the defense but Barba faces him head on and gets control of the ball for North to capture their first win of the post season, 2-0.
