Benet Academy opens the girls basketball season at home against St. Ignatius on teacher appreciation night. The Redwings return many key contributors from last year’s team that finished 4th in the state.
First Half
A lot of turnovers in the early going as both teams are amped up to start the season, Wisconsin commit Brooke Schramek turns a steal into a nice bounce pass to Kendall Moriarty for the first basket of the game.
The Wolfpack attacking the boards to stay in the game. Ella Richards grabs her own miss and ties the game with the putback.
Benet up 5-2 in the first, Allison Forney swings it to Ashley Berry who gets the three to go and draws the foul. BA up 8-2.
Still in the first, Redwings showing off the depth, Lex Moriarty pulls up and buries a three. Benet goes up 13-4 as 8 different Redwings make at least one basket in the game.
Great vision from Molly Sheehan to whip a pass underneath to Lindsey Rogers. Benet now up 26-11 in the 2nd quarter.
Second Half
Good ball movement from St. Ignatius in the third quarter, Leah Poorman to Paige Gross for two, Wolfpack down by 11.
A well run fast break for Benet, Molly Sheehan grabs the loose ball and immediately throws a one handed pass to a streaking Lindsey Rogers for the layup.
Next time down the floor, Sheehan and Rogers continue to connect as Sheehan draws the double team before dishing to Rogers for two of her eight points. Benet goes up by 17.
End of the third, Rogers shows she can pass too, finding Allison Forney with good post position down low for the layup. Redwings push the lead to 36-17.
In the 4th quarter, Ignatius finally gets the offense going, Paige Gross with a nice crossover before doing just enough to avoid the Kendall Holmes charge attempt as the bank shot falls. Gross with a game high 14 points.
Midway through the 4th, Lauren McDonald goes around a screen and buries the step back three pointer. Suddenly the Wolfpack only trails by 7, 44-37 with four minutes to go.
Benet Academy stays calm and turns to its seniors to put the game away, Rogers to Brooke Schramek for the layup down low. 8 points in the game for Schramek as the Redwings hang on to start the season 1-0 after a 52-41 victory.
