The boys basketball season is winding down with regional seedings already being released. Naperville Central hosts Waubonsie Valley in a final tune-up. Naperville Central holds the 19th seed at the Downers Grove Regional where as the Warriors grabbed the 2 seed in the Tinley Park regional.
First possession of the first quarter, Centrals Chris Conway has the size and takes advantage. Turns and hits the basket. First of 10 points as Central leads 2-0.
Next Redhawk possession, Michigan State bound QB Payton Thorne hits Patrick Zheng and he finishes with a lay up. 4-0.
Waubonsie seeming a little slow off the bench. Eric Cannon goes for the three, it rattles away but Marcus Skeete gets the rebound and putback. Hawks lead 6-2 at the end of the first.
Redhawks working hard on both sides of the court… second quarter action with Sam Jackson able to force a turnover.. takes it right inside the arch for a deep 2. Central leading by 6.
Still early in the second quarter, Waubonsie hanging on. Caymen Woods drives baseline and finds Derrian Porter at the top. Nothing but net for the three as Waubonsie is down just 3.
Second quarter winding down. Cam doughtery finds Neil Gupta for 3 points. Central extend their lead at the half, 17-12.
Few minutes into the third, Caymen Woods drives and gets the tough foul and lay up to fall. WV down 4.
Still in the third, Chris Conway again using his size to his advantage after the pass from Cam Dougthery. Bullies his way in for 2. Central up 28-25 after 3.
Fourth and final stanza, Conway hits Doughtery with a nifty pass and he finishes with the backwards lay in.. Redhawks extending their lead 32-25.
Turns out the regional rankings don’t mean much… Naperville Central proves their worth… finishing with a Payton Thorne 3 as they go on to win 42-32.
