Established in 1972, The Conservation Foundation is a private, not-for-profit land and watershed protection organization headquartered at the 60-acre McDonald Farm in Naperville. They improve the health of our communities by preserving and restoring natural areas and open space, protecting rivers and watersheds, and promoting stewardship of our environment.  The Conservation Foundation has its main office in Naperville and its work primarily covers DuPage, Kane, Will, and Kendall counties.

Their Award-winning Conservation@Home program, helps landowners implement eco-friendly practices to help protect the environment. Their offices at McDonald’s Farm are open, but they suggest calling ahead to get a tour set up. The farm dates back to the 1870s and has been updated with new “green” features like – Green Roof, Rain Harvesting, Wetland Restoration, Solar Panels, Wind Turbine and more…

Jim Kleinwachter is the Conservation at Home Program Manager and together with his staff offers local homeowners help and advice about sustainable landscape and water issues. He will go to residents’ homes to provide recommendations on how they can create a sustainable garden using native plants which is the core of an environmentally friendly landscape.
