About the Education Center
The Education Center of Developmental Resources is a counseling and referral center that provides a nontraditional form of counseling — life coaching — that helps children and teens gain self-confidence, independence and skills to last a lifetime.
40 years ago, Dr. Michael Litow identified a need in the community – a need to provide services to young people who were “falling through the cracks” in the education system. Their academic difficulties, fear of failure, depression, learning disabilities, drug problems, or stressful family situations were challenges that they could not overcome alone. With students’ needs in mind, Litow founded The Education Center of Developmental Resources, bringing the resources of the community together to help these young people find “success in school as well as in life.”
Since then, The Education Center has worked with thousands of youth and their families. Employing a holistic approach, the center offers a variety of services, tutors, mentors, and counselors who specialize in areas that are needed by individual children and families. A coordinated services team helps put a plan together to help children overcome issues and learn coping mechanisms. The Education Center’s innovative life-coaching model has given hope to parents and children who didn’t know where else to turn.
